In 2006, an international research laboratory (IRL) was created as a joint laboratory between the Georgia Institute of Technology (GT) and the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS). It is noteworthy that Georgia Tech – CNRS is the first IRL primarily located in France. The laboratory was first based in Metz, France at the Georgia Tech Europe campus. In 2009, a second site has been established at the GIT campus in Atlanta, USA, in the Pettit building. Jean Paul Salvestrini, Adjunct Professor at Georgia Tech, currently in his second contract as Director, has succeeded in 2018 to Abdallah Ougazzaden who led the three first contracts successfully.
